I've been having a lot of fun creating with paper clay and had one of my regular customers (Lynn Waters owner of DecorationDay on Etsy) ask for something "jazzy" that she could use as a focal bead/brooch pin for some new handbags and clutches she is working on. So, I decided to "jazz" things up a bit for her and came up with the idea to take the paper clay a step further by adding some great texture and dimension using real eggshells! I then made the eggshells really pop with color using black watercolor paint as a base over the eggshells. Once, the watercolor was dry I added some alcohol inks in deep rich cobalt blue. Next came some acrylic paints in various colors and that's it! I finished off the piece with Mod Podge and a high shine glaze and was done! My customer, Lynn is planning to have the items completed and listed in her Esty shop in September of those of you who may be interested in seeing where they ended up! For those of you who would like to try this eggshell technique I encourage you to watch a couple YouTube videos first. There are many videos and different styles and techniques that people use when creating eggshell mosaics so I encourage you to watch some videos and then choose which style suits your taste best!
In this photo you will see the five eggshell mosaic brooch beads that I created and sold to my customer!
